In common with other explorers of the time, Flinders explored the Port Augusta area hoping to penetrate the heart of the Australian continent.
Rainfall was too unreliable and the area was subject to frequent droughts.
The area soon resorted to its previous pastoral activities.
The Indian Pacific train service runs several times a week and we reckon that's definitely travelling the Nullarbor in fine style!
